À propos
de Sarthe is pleased to announce its third annual de Sarthe Artist Residency (deSAR) as well as the resident artist, Wing Po So (b. Hong Kong 1985). The artist will create artwork in the gallery space, which will be open to the public during normal gallery hours throughout the duration of the residency. deSAR runs from 17 July to 7 September and will culminate in a short exhibition.
During the residency, So will transform the space into a fictional excavation site. The artworks she plans to construct are made with Chinese medicinal ingredients such as plants, roots, seeds, and minerals, in addition to found objects. Engaging human senses through textures and smells, So's work fundamentally reconstructs time, space, and scale to contemplate philosophies about matter and being.
deSAR will be open during normal gallery hours, Tuesday to Saturday 11:00am to 7:00pm.
About deSAR
Inaugurated in 2017, de Sarthe's open-studio residency takes place in the gallery's 10,000sq/foot space in Hong Kong's art district, Wong Chuk Hang. In a city known for excessively high rent and exceedingly small spaces, the residency allows Hong Kong-based artists the freedom of a large arena to explore their creativity and actively encourages audiences to witness as well as potentially participate in the process of making art. The residency program aggressively challenges the conventional transition of dynamics between artists' studios and galleries--subverting both the notion of privacy within creation and altering the nature of a gallery space.
