Born in 1970, Zhou Wendou’s works have been presented in Museums (Today Art Museum in China, Foundation Antonio Perez in Spain), Private collections (White Rabbit Gallery in Australia), Biennales (Bussan Biennale in 2016) and Art Fairs (Art Basel Hong Kong) around the world. His art uses ordinary objects as a medium to create artworks that will not only be “big toys for adults” as the artist stated in the past but also to question Art as a political and social function.
To quote the artist: “We live in a world full of products and products are the icon of human civilization. The reasons products are created are due to the need in our daily life. Its unique form and structure are designed for its function. To choose a material or color mostly depends on the uniqueness of its function. That is to say, the use value decides the existing meaning for the products. But does products only have use value? What will happen after its functionality is ripped off? Does non-functionality also have its own value? “
