Marking as Mak2’s first solo exhibition in Taipei, Palace of Love is a continuum of the artist’s iconic “Home Sweet Home” series which explores the fine line between reality and imaginary through her sense of humor. Transforming the life simulation video game into a love reality show, Mak2 presents her new series of work in royal residence aesthetics within the digital environment by implying luxurious baroque elements. The uncoordinated yet exaggerated atmosphere implied the public had gradually became consumer over social relationships by devoting emotional labour, as well as how they tended to project fantasy in order to fill the void. Mak2’s creative practice indicated her intuitive understanding towards human behaviours with a hint of black humor, as well as reflecting the systemic problems of global contemporary art production through her ingenious personal vision.
